Please take back the decision of fees hike and make a stable fees hike policy.

Please take back the decision of fees hike and make a stable fees hike policy.

The Issue

National Institute of Fashion Technology is a premier fashion institute under Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Though it is a governmental institute under a national ministry, the fees paid by the students are parallel to that of many private institutions in India. And on the top of that, it is being increased by 10% every year. Everybody here at NIFT knows that the facilities provided here at NIFT are not worth this big amount of money.

Before the admission, it was nowhere mentioned that there will be a fess hike of 10% every year. But the same is happening both for the new admissions and the older students. Though this all depends on the sole decision taken by the NIFT authority (in legal terms), but this is not justified.

It seems that, this fees hike of 10% has been included in the NIFT policy. If it is so, then it must be made clear to the students before taking admission in NIFT. For a new student the revised fee structure is acceptable. But for the students who are already studying at NIFT and have planned their loans and other source of income for paying the fees as per the old fee structure, this sudden fees hike is not acceptable at all.

Last year the students of NIFT sat for "Anshan" against this policy. But now it seems, that all was for nothing and we failed to convey our message to the higher authority. We students were told this step was being taken due to insufficient funding from the central cabinet.

This time if the reason is the same then we should convey our message to the Textile and HRD Ministry of India. As the same policy of 10% hike is not follwed for all the national educational institutes. Inflation rate cannot be made an excuse for this because this is a National Institute funded by national government of India and our parents are already paying taxes to support the Indian economy and we will be doing the same.

They talk about the expansion of the institute. Is this our responsibility to provide the fund for new NIFT capmpuses! If it is so, then better privatize this institute.

This time, by signing this petition we should send a message to all the concerned departments and authorities to draw back this decision of fees hike. I also request the faculty members and staffs at NIFT to support this campaign. This is not against an individual but against a system. Please convey this message to maximum students and staffs at NIFT through e-mails and social media.
