Barton Park is a new housing development situated off of the Oxford Ring Road. Before any bricks were laid local people petitioned against a road being built across the Ring Road for bus and bicycle access into the existing Northway Estate and the new Barton Park Estate...this obviously fell on deaf ears and was built anyway. 

Do not get me wrong this pedestrian access is very much needed with families crossing from both estates regularly for school, work and access to other amenities.  It just needs to be made so much safer!!! As a parent of young children I feel a subway or bridge would be safer or even better a Road system put in place like they have done further along the Ring road by BMW and Tesco's. 

The crossing is very open with cars far exceeding the speed limit in both directions, the crossing controls are situated so close to the road that you feel like you're almost stepping into the traffic to press the button! And once you start to cross you have to hope that the drivers are paying enough attention that they stop in time! The lights do not give enough time to get from one side to the central reservation before changing let alone the entire stretch across the Ring Road! Between battling the lights, the cycle track and cyclists and pedestrians, the central reservation floods when raining so you not only get soaked crossing through the rain Rivers but the spray from the traffic. 

There have been many accidents and near misses on this stretch of road and I feel it is only a matter of time before a fatality occurs!!! My daughter and I were almost hit on the way back from school when a car did an illegal u turn from one side of the ringroad to the other side driving straight through the pedestrian crossing which was on a green man! Many other parents have told me about other scary experiences crossing this road and it just isn't acceptable! 

With the help of the local community I want your help to make this a safer place for our residents and their families by asking that a safer way to get across this already busy road is built.
