Growing up in Cavite, I have always been surrounded by animals. They've been my constant companions, offering unconditional love and joy. But as much as they bring happiness, I've also witnessed the struggles they face. Stray animals roaming without shelter, pets abandoned when they grow old or sick, and cases of abuse that break my heart. Each animal deserves care and protection, something that is often lacking due to insufficient animal welfare policies.

In the province of Cavite, the situation for animals is dire. According to a 2020 report by the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), there are over 12,000 stray animals in Cavite alone. Many of these animals suffer from malnutrition, diseases, and traumatic injuries yet receive no medical attention. The lack of effective animal control programs and welfare policies exacerbates these issues, leaving many animals to fend for themselves on the streets.

Implementing stronger animal welfare laws is crucial. We need the government and local authorities to take immediate actions such as enforcing existing laws against animal cruelty, providing funding for animal shelters, and promoting spaying and neutering campaigns to control the stray animal population. Additionally, public education campaigns should be initiated to raise awareness about responsible pet ownership and the importance of animal welfare.

Several neighboring provinces have successfully implemented similar measures and have seen a significant improvement in animal welfare. For instance, in Laguna, the local government allocated funds to support animal shelters and provide free veterinary services for strays. Such initiatives in Cavite could drastically improve the situation for our animals.
