Coach Paul Woods is a role model to so many of the boys who walked through the blue doors of Canisius High School. He's more than just a football coach; he's a pillar of our community.

Coach Woods has been an inspiration to countless students. Not only has he helped cultivate a team that thrived on and off the field, but he has also been a mentor. He's provided guidance and support to young individuals, helping them cultivate character, resilience, and a strong sense of community. Beyond the football field, he has been involved in outreach, benefitting many who have never even attended Canisius High School.

Despite his invaluable contributions, Coach Woods has been issued an indefinite suspension after an incident at a home game on 10/17/26. This came after a very intense, emotional game, due to the serving referees displaying a disgusting, disgraceful, unprovoked biased game. All while being disrespectful to Canisius’ football staff, players and box staff. Those involved have yet to be held accountable for their actions but were quick to react to Coach Paul to get him indefinitely suspended. During the incident the head referee said Coach Paul would serve a one-game suspension, however, that has turned into an indefinite suspension. Coach Paul has owned up to and took full accountability on his part in the incident but this suspension, this decision will have repercussions that extend beyond the loss on the field. It affects the students who look up to him, the athletes who depend on him, and the entire Canisius community that thrives under his influence. His suspension will leave a void that cannot easily be filled.

We acknowledge that disciplinary actions must be enforced when necessary, but it is imperative to re-evaluate the impact of prolonging this suspension on both Coach Woods and the Canisius High School community. We must address and resolve any underlying issues, ensuring fairness and transparency in the process.

Reinstating Coach Woods will restore stability and confidence to a program that relies heavily on his leadership. The absence of his guidance could have lasting effects on the morale and success of the students and athletes alike. Let’s urge Canisius High School administration to rethink this indefinite suspension and allow Coach Woods to continue shaping the lives of so many.
