My story begins with a decision - the decision my grandmother made to preserve life. Had she chosen differently, my beloved mother would not be here, and neither would I. This deeply personal narrative informs my strong conviction for the protection of the unborn, and brings me here, before the good citizens of our nation, to challenge Amendment 3 in Missouri State.

Amendment 3, enacted into the laws of Missouri State, seeks to restrict the constitutional rights to make personal decisions about one's body and family. It's an amendment that threatens the lives of unborn children, devoid of balanced safeguards for the welfare of the unborn child.

According to an estimate by the Guttmacher Institute, in 2017 alone, there were approximately 879,000 abortions in the United States. This figure can be seen as an indication of the number of lives that could have been protected if a more balanced law were in place.

While I acknowledge the need for us to protect every woman’s right to control her body, I believe this should not supersede the right of an unborn child to life. Our objective should not be one over the other, but the recognition and balance of both rights.

Hence, it is time, we put forth the call for lawmakers to revisit and reconsider this amendment. The call is not just for a repeal, but for comprehensive, just, and empathetic legislation that takes into account both the rights of the mother and the unborn child.
