Outlaw Unregulated Pornographic Content and Pornography Websites
The Issue
I am deeply concerned about the negative impact of pornography on individuals and relationships. I believe that pornography is responsible for the destruction of the individual, particularly in the ability to form sincere, emotional relationships devoid of personal objectification and degradation sourced from decades of porn use. This concern is not unfounded; studies have shown that excessive consumption of pornography can lead to issues such as decreased sexual satisfaction and potential relationship problems (Bridges, A.J., & Morokoff, P.J., 2011).
Pornography is banned in several countries around the world due to its potential harm. For instance, South Korea and Iran have strict laws against it because they recognize its detrimental effects on society (OpenNet Initiative). It's time we consider similar measures to protect our society.
Our children are being exposed to this content at an alarmingly young age. According to a study by Middlesex University, nearly 65% of 15-16 year olds reported seeing pornography (Martellozzo et al., 2016). This early exposure can distort their understanding of healthy relationships and sexuality. I believe that porn dependencies are being formed early in life, warping entire worldviews and stunting emotional development, hence why its access should be more strictly regulated, if not outlawed or banned entirely. Children should not be able to access pornographic material, nor is it really justifiable that grown adults cannot form meaningful relationships absent of lust as its centrality.
It's time we take a stand against this pervasive issue that affects us all in one way or another. Let us strive for a society where respect for each other squanders objectification; where real connections are valued over virtual fantasies; where our children grow up understanding love instead of lust.
Please sign this petition calling for legislation that seeks to regulate pornographic content and limits access, or eventually outlaw porn websites in our country. Let us protect ourselves, our relationships, our children from the harmful effects caused by unrestricted access to pornography.
