Outlaw Ticket Touting and Reselling in the UK

The Issue

As a music fan, I'm frequently denied the joy of attending live performances. Tickets are often bought by touts and sold at exorbitant prices online, robbing genuine working-class music enthusiasts of the chance to experience the music we love and adore. This is why I'm calling for a reform in the UK’s event ticketing market.

Ticket touting and reselling is an unethical practice that capitalises on the passion of fans for personal profit. A Statista survey revealed that resold tickets in the UK were on average 49% more expensive than their face value in 2019. I'm not alone in my struggle; thousands of others are deprived of affordable access to cultural events yearly.

It's time for the law to step in. In France, a similar law was introduced in 2012, capping the resale price of tickets and penalising illegal touts. This has significantly reduced the impact of the black market on the music industry and fans.

Therefore, we urge the UK government to outlaw ticket touting and reselling, introducing a similar regulation as France. This will give all British individuals equal opportunity to access live music experiences without being priced out.

Please sign this petition to restore fairness and equality for all UK music fans.
