The Issue

On July 4, 2026, my wife and I tucked our son into bed around 8 pm, hoping for a peaceful evening. However, as the fireworks began, his cries echoed through our home, perpetuated by the relentless booms echoing in our neighborhood. We tried to comfort him by bringing him downstairs, giving him a snack, and eventually allowing him to sleep in our bed, hoping to shield him from the deafening noise. Despite our efforts, my son continued to cry hysterically for hours, even with headphones on and my hands pressed over his ears, begging me to make it stop.

This is not an isolated incident. Many families with young children or pets in Rancho Cordova experience similar terror every year. Our community becomes a warzone with legalized explosions causing distress to countless families. Fireworks, while enjoyable to some, become weapons of fear for others.

Moreover, the environmental impact and safety risks associated with fireworks cannot be overlooked. Rancho Cordova faces a significantly high wildfire risk. A single mishap with fireworks could ignite a disaster, endangering lives, homes, and wildlife. Beyond the immediate safety concerns, fireworks contribute to air pollution, releasing toxic substances into the atmosphere, which can harm both human health and the environment.

There are organized fireworks displays that people can choose to attend if they wish to watch the spectacle. These controlled environments ensure both safety and enjoyment without imposing unwanted terror on residents or sparking wildfires.

It's time for Rancho Cordova to prioritize the safety and well-being of its residents over the fleeting entertainment of fireworks. By outlawing the sale and use of fireworks in our community, we can prevent unnecessary distress, protect our natural environment, and ensure a safer future for all.

I urge local authorities to take immediate action to prohibit the use and sale of fireworks within Rancho Cordova. Together, we can foster a community where safety, peace, and mutual respect prevail.

Please sign this petition to support a fireworks ban in Rancho Cordova, CA, for a safer and more peaceful community.
