There is no legislature regarding physical punishment at public schools in 19 states nor is there any federal legislature regarding it either. Wyoming is one of those states. Physical punishment in schools such as paddling, spanking, flicking, and slapping has been around for a long time. It is understood that some people still support physical punishment in their child's school and some do not. Some might say it wouldn't be "American" if there wasn't a chance for people to choose. This is about giving people the freedom to choose to place their child in a private school, where physical punishment is allowed, and giving the majority, who don't have the means to make that choice, a default where such punishment is illegal, in public schools. The physical punishment that this petition is against does not include the physical contact that might be necessary for situations that might require restraint or self-defense.
