In an effort to protect the most vulnerable members of our society, we are advocating for the enactment of a law that renders it illegal for minors to reside with registered child sex offenders. Current legal systems do not prohibit this, creating an unsettling environment that puts our children at grave risk. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, there are currently over 900,000 registered sex offenders in the United States, many of whom are child sex offenders. This means that potentially hundreds of thousands of minors are in potentially dangerous living situations. Moreover, the Bureau of Justice Statistics indicates that over half of sex crimes against minors are committed by someone the child knows. Therefore, we urge for a law that safeguards the welfare of our children and prevents such dangerous living arrangements.
