We, the undersigned, hereby petition the Ouray County Planning Commission and Board of Commissioners to develop and adopt strong and effective regulations for residential development in Ouray County's Alpine zone that will maintain its small-scale, low-density character and accomplish the following:

• Preserve and protect the natural and scenic environment of the Alpine zone and especially its fragile tundra ecosystem;
• Maintain and preserve the Alpine zone's historic character and public access rights;
• Avoid conflict with current and future mining activities important to the County's economy;
• Minimize impacts of residential development on tourism and recreation;
• Avoid threats to public safety due to extreme climate, avalanche, rock-fall and other hazardous condition; and
• Recognize the limited public and utility services that are available and the financial impacts on County taxpayers from the development of remote areas

If a substantial number of the eight hundred and forty or so mining claims above 9500ft in Ouray County’s high country were to have residential development occur on them, we would tragically diminish future generations’ enjoyment of this magnificent landscape. Please use this opportunity to protect the crown jewel of OUR County’s natural heritage.
