Living in Port Kembla, a family-oriented community, poses a significant challenge due to constant motorcycle speeding through and around Port Kembla and up Hill 60.  Many families, including mine, reside in this area, and it's alarming to see how unsafe it has become, especially with many schools nearby. The danger escalates as motorcycles zoom past at perilous speeds during daylight hours while often performing wheelies, thereby endangering pedestrians and other motorists.

The issue worsens in the evening when the tranquillity of our neighbourhood is shattered by revving engines and screeching tires. This incessant noise not only disturbs the peace but also affects everyone's sleep, from children who need rest for school, to adults working hard to support their families. We, as a community, cannot endure this ongoing disruption when the solution is within reach.

We are calling on council to take immediate action to stop dangerous speeding and racing in our community. Proven solutions such as speed humps, raised crossings, road narrowing, lower speed limits, speed cameras, and increased enforcement can significantly reduce reckless driving and restore peace to our streets. Our children deserve safe roads, and our families deserve a good night’s sleep. It’s time for real traffic-calming measures before someone is seriously hurt.

Furthermore, if the authorities deem it appropriate, closing off the Lookout from 9pm could also serve as an effective deterrent against night-time speeding to and from this location.
