Phoenix Community Park - a place for everyone to enjoy.

Hi everyone, it's great to see so many signatures so thank you so much for your support. We've nearly smashed the 500 mark !!

It's been a while since I posted an update so here it is.

One of our sub group members has had a meeting with the Assistant Director of Estates at North Yorkshire Council and explained our plans and funding options for the land but NYC still haven't made a decision on letting us have the whole site. Because we are now asking for the whole of the site to be transferred to us our focus has changed to making it into a Community Park so that everyone can use it.

Our plans will still include the much needed skatepark but we are also planning to have a cafe and a community space along with a green space for all, where we can hold fun events and other activities, instead of parents having to fund a trip into Scarborough.

We have also found out that we are eligible to apply for capital funding from the Community Ownership Fund of up to £250,000 to demolish the derelict buildings on the site as long as we match fund 20% of the cost (£50,000) We can also apply to them for revenue costs of up to £50,000 to fund development costs in the first year which doesn't have to be match funded so the money is out there for us to get the project up and running. Once we get the land we can apply to lots of other organisations for grants etc. so we need to keep putting pressure on the Council to release the land.

Date for your diaries …..Sunday 29th October, 12 noon till 4pm at the new Overdale School, Autumnfest event. We will be there with our popcorn and candy floss machines so come along and talk to us about any ideas you have for the Phoenix Community Park!!
