The Original Highlands neighborhood is sandwiched between commerce corridors, resulting in increased vehicular traffic, speeding vehicles, non-observance of stop signs and crosswalks, and increasing danger to pedestrians and cyclists. 

Original Highlands residents are avid walkers and cyclists; enjoying the neighborhood with their dogs, children, friends, and neighbors. It is, however, becoming increasingly dangerous to cross a street on foot or on a bicycle. 

We, as residents, would like safety measures put in place that calm neighborhood traffic, decrease the amount of vehicles driving through our streets, and put pedestrian and cyclist safety at the forefront. 

Three proven traffic calming and pedestrian safety measures that we want implemented as soon as possible are:

1. Speed Humps on every straight-line street through the neighborhood
2. High-visibility crosswalks at every intersection.  
3. Flashing beacons atop each stop sign.

While business corridors are an important economic factor in cities, and should be welcomed, maintained, and nurtured, adjacent neighborhoods and their streets should not have to fall victim to the effects. A symbiotic relationship can exist, while preserving the peace and safety of all of the residents, simply by the implementation of proven traffic calming measures.
