Last week, during a live-streamed Q&A with the ABC, the Prime Minister was asked our exact question from our petition:
“When will the child care subsidy be amended to allow for co-working spaces with child care, payments to grandparents, nannies and other options to allow parental choice and continuity of care? Is that something you're open to, Prime Minister?”
His response was:
“That would be a very big change to the system… it’s not something we have on our agenda at the moment. We understand where people are coming from and we respect different choices, but it would be a very big impost on the Commonwealth and taxpayers, and it could change the dynamic of how families operate in broader ways.”
While it wasn’t a yes, it also wasn’t a dismissal. The Prime Minister acknowledged this is a big and important conversation, and thanks to you, families finally have his attention.
Next step: Canberra this Wednesday 🚀
Thanks to the huge success of this petition, we’re going to Canberra this Wednesday to meet with MPs and Senators across the political spectrum. And we won’t be going alone, we’re taking mums and their babies with us. These are people who signed the petition because they urgently need this change.
This is about putting parents and families directly in front of decision-makers so they can’t ignore the need for childcare choice.
How you can help
We’ve launched a GoFundMe to make this trip happen. Until now, this campaign has been powered by grit, Canva, and volunteer hours, but getting to Canberra requires resources.
