Dear Supporters,
Thank you for your continued support of the SB Tenants Union. We are writing to provide you with an important update on our petition and its goals. Your signatures and voices have been instrumental in our fight for justice and better living conditions.
Updated Petition Goals
1. Stricter Landlord Repercussions: We are now advocating for landlord repercussions for breaching leases to be as severe as those tenants face when evicted through an Unlawful Detainer Judgment by the Superior Courts. This includes significant penalties that impact landlords’ credit and rental reputation, preventing further exploitative practices.
2. Immediate Remediation of Living Conditions: We demand urgent action to address and resolve the ongoing issues in our community, including floods, malfunctioning HVAC systems, pest infestations, visible mold, and more. Our goal is to ensure safe and habitable living conditions for all tenants.
3. Accountability for Property Management Companies: We seek to hold DTLA Management, 1200 Management, Laguna Point Properties, Fifteen Group, FPI Management, Greystar Management, and Avenue5 Residential accountable for their negligence. Our aim is to prevent these companies from continuing their operations in California until they comply with fair housing standards.
4. Legislative Support: We are reaching out to key decision-makers, including Assembly Member Reginald B. Jones-Sawyer Sr. and Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas, to garner their support for stronger tenant rights laws and stricter landlord accountability measures.
5. Community Engagement: We will continue to mobilize our community and gather more signatures to strengthen our collective voice. Your support is crucial in spreading awareness and ensuring that our demands are met.
