One Year Later: SB Residents Face Another Building Sale Without Prior Notification and Continued Discrepancies
It's been a year since the SB Buildings were sold without proper notification, causing significant issues for the community's residents. Unfortunately, the residents have been forced to relive the same trauma, as on March 31, 2023, they received another impromptu notice from FPI Management & Laguna Point Properties (previous owners) that the building had been sold again. The new owners, 15Group, were set to take over on April 1, 2023, without prior notification to the tenants.
The tenants, still coping with the previous sale's traumatic experience due to a lack of proper notice, are understandably anxious and worried about the potential horrors they may face this time around. By law, tenants should receive a 120-day notice before the building is sold, but that wasn't the case.
Similar to the last change in ownership, tenants immediately reported their many complaints of maintenance issues and other discrepancies that occurred over the last year and are still occurring in their community. Unfortunately, their complaints have fallen on deaf ears. The residents of the five properties are still facing significant habitability issues, including plumbing leaks, floods, transients breaking into the buildings to squat, camping in the halls and stairwells, inoperable or faulty appliances, unnotified unit entry from management/maintenance, multiple pay or quit notices being posted in a 24-hour timeframe, pest and rodents, car vandalism and theft, and more.
