Dear Supporters,
We have some crucial updates regarding the SB Lofts community. The Sb Community has undergone its fourth management change in just two years, transitioning from Avenue5 Residential to FAM Residential. Although this rapid turnover presents ongoing challenges, we are encouraged by the strong collective efforts of our residents.
We are pleased to report that our efforts to hold property management accountable at Ames Lofts have resulted in a General Manager Hearing and Ames Lofts being officially accepted into the Rent Escrow Account Program (REAP). This program, administered by the Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD), allows tenants to deposit rent into an escrow account while management works to address substandard living conditions. Importantly, tenants may receive rent reductions of 10-50% depending on the severity of the violations, which ensures financial relief while repairs are pending.
This victory marks a significant step forward, but our work is not done. The SB Tenants Union is actively working to turn individual lawsuits into class actions, extending these efforts across the other buildings in our community: Jaide Lofts, Thurman Lofts, Marley Lofts, and Randolph Lofts. Each building has experienced similar challenges, and we are determined to ensure that no resident is left without proper support and advocacy.
We are grateful for the continued support from our community and petition backers. Together, we have made substantial progress toward improving living conditions and holding negligent management accountable. Please continue to share our petition and spread the word as we push forward with these efforts. Your voice and solidarity are crucial in achieving lasting change.
Thank you for standing with us.
In solidarity,
SB Tenants Union
