The Issue

The African Caribbean Community Initiative (ACCI) stands as a beacon of hope and support for countless individuals and families in our community. However, we are faced with an urgent crisis: the Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHFT) has notified us of their intentions to decommission our essential services. A decision that  threatens not only the continuity of our much-needed initiatives but the health and mental well-being of those who rely heavily on our support.

For more than 38 years, ACCI has been dedicated to providing culturally sensitive services, respecting the unique needs of all the ethnicities and heritages within Wolverhampton and surrounding areas. Our mission has been to bridge the gap in healthcare services, offering a sanctuary where the mental health needs of our community are understood and addressed with the compassion and dignity they deserve. The proposed decommissioning undermines the partnerships we have built over years to help the Trust deliver on it's strategic priorities and disregards the invaluable impact we have on the lives of our service members.

Cuts to services like ours will disproportionately affect an already vulnerable community, exacerbating the challenges they face by reducing the resources that advocate for them. Mental health services should be expanded, not decommissioned, particularly for minority communities whose needs are often underrepresented in mainstream services. We urge the BCHFT to reconsider this decision and prioritise community welfare and equitable healthcare, we know the NHS is under unprecedented financial pressures, but we also know there is a pathway to solutions that do not involve decommissioning. We call upon our supporters, allies, and stakeholders to stand with us during this time.

Join us in urging the BCHFT to rescind their decision, ensuring the continuation and growth of ACCI's services for the individuals and families who depend on us now, and for generations to come. By signing this petition, you are taking a stand for accountability and advocating for a future where the approach to mental health is a holistic one, led by equitable healthcare services. Will you take a stand for ACCI?
