"Our Climate, Our Future" Youth Petition to World Leaders

"Our Climate, Our Future" Youth Petition to World Leaders

The Issue

This is our opportunity, as the youngest generation of the world, to be heard by world leaders at the 20th Anniversary of the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development in June 2012. It’s our chance to let world leaders know that our FUTURE MATTERS and to compel them to make decisions that will protect our planet and its resources for the youngest and future generations. Together, with Earth Day Network, TckTckTck and other partners, iMatter is asking you to sign this petition to make sure your voice heard.

At the UN Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, twenty years ago, a 13-year-old girl named Severn Suzuki made this statement that brought the world leaders to tears. And yet, in the twenty years since then...during our entire lives... nothing has changed. In fact, the planet is even worse off, and in more need than ever.

We have been relying on fossil fuels for over a century and now is the time to change. For every year that we wait, for every hour that we stall, the future and the survival of the youngest generation--and that of generations to come—is jeopardized. Please add your name to this petition and invite your friends to do the same.

Let us be the generation that fought back. Visit www.iMatter-Movement.org to find out more.

Kids vs Global WarmingPetition StarterThe iMatter Campaign is a youth-led project of the nonprofit, Kids vs. Global Warming, empowering youth leaders who compel action on the climate crisis. These are the leaders of a generation who may be too young to vote and have little political clout, but who exercise their civil rights to lead the way to a society that lives and governs as if their future matters. www.imattermarch.org/
