It is time for the community to come together and give credit where credit is due.

In light of the devastatingly successful strategic brilliance of police leadership throughout this occupation, the signers of this petition propose that the Ottawa Police Service be officially renamed the Mona and Nedward Flanders Police Service of Ottawa.

Mr and Mrs Flanders never sought the limelight for their tireless and pioneering research in the field of police strategy. They were happy in their previous careers as beatnik poets trying to care for their unruly child, Ned Jr.

"We've tried nothing, and we're all out of ideas."

At first glance, it seems so simple. But to the trained and skilled eye of police leaders, it's true brilliance as a strategy shines brighter than the brightest of stars in the heavens.

Most of us mere mortals, over the course of an eight day period, may have wavered from the course, and actually tried something. Anything. But that's why we are just mere mortals.

Some may argue that now is not the appropriate time for the Ottawa Police Service to devote resources to renaming themselves. It would of course entail ordering new uniforms, new badges and new cruisers. I argue the opposite--they are not really making any apparent use of those resources right now anyway.

If anything, to the untrained eye at least, it seems an awful lot like the police are doing nothing at all. Nothing at all. Nothing at all.
