OSU, Shame On YOU! Stop the Firing of Josephine County Worker!
The Issue
Sharon Evans has been a dedicated Office Assistant in the Josephine County Extension Office in Grants Pass, Oregon and employee of Oregon State University for nine years.
During the pandemic, Sharon (gladly) kept the office running. Sharon's boss, the Regional Director, administered the work from home, 200 miles away. In their new RD position and having not seen Sharon in action every day explains why the RD decided to lay Sharon off (not for cause), but just because, right before Christmas.
Sharon’s favorite volunteer program that she assists with is the JOCO 4-H Stockings for Soldiers. She has been assisting with it for 9 years and it starts in the Summer at Fair. She has been assisting, motivating, gathering, sewing, packing and mailing for the last 9 years to make this program a success. It starts early in the spring when she gathers 4H kids to sew, decorate stockings, and write holiday letters and continues until Thanksgiving, gathering items from our community to put in those care packages. We have multiple pictures, thank-yous and plaques, from soldiers and community members, on the walls of our Extension office attesting to her efforts.
JOCO 4-H Stockings for Soldiers is just one of the many projects to which Sharon donates volunteer hours, above and beyond her office work. Sharon is definitely the heart of the Josephine County Extension office.
Please sign and share the petition to keep Sharon at her job serving Josephine County. Contact OSU's Extension Service Director Ivory Lyles and tell him Sharon needs to stay!
