I hold a commercial drivers license in the state of California. My job duties consists of delivering and stocking building materials. We stock roofing materials by hand on top of customers homes and on commercial buildings. The temperature on a roof can be 20 to 40 degree's hotter than on the ground. On average one job takes about an hour and a half. We then get into a hot truck on a summer day and can drive anywhere within a 100 mile radius. We are delivery drivers just like UPS and FEDEX who maintain a high level for fast and safe customer service. While on the roof we can get off and find the necessary shade to cool down but when driving we cannot simply pull over a 60k pound plus truck anywhere to find shade. These trucks are hot inside with out AC and I believe driving in these conditions can lead to a serious heat illness causing serious injury or death. If these trucks have no air condition or cannot be fixed, companies need to take the next step in protecting us. I petition mandatory AC be required in all delivery trucks.
