Create a beach and swimming area at Lake Ivanhoe

This petition had 157 supporters

The city has officially announced they are looking to "improve water quality on at least one lake in downtown to allow for swimming." Thank you Orlando! (read more here:

The purpose of this petition has slightly changed to show how much we are interested in a beach-style recreation area. Sooner is better than later! Additionally this petition is to promote the Lake Ivanhoe location. Remember, it is already clean and safe to swim in!

The abundance of lakes in Florida, especially near Downtown Orlando is astounding. Currently the only way to enjoy these lakes is by walking around them or using some sort of vessel. It's a shame to waste this unique part of Orlando. There is a strong sense of a waterfront culture here in Downtown Orlando. With the ocean nearly an hour drive away a lake-front beach will be very popular in Downtown Orlando.

The location of Gaston Edwards Park (Lake Ivanhoe) is perfect because the water is already swimmable, there are no nearby residential areas that will be disturbed, and there are plenty of bars and restaurants in walking distance. Additionally, these bars and restaurants, along with store fronts will have the added benefit of additional exposure and foot traffic.
