Right now there are moves to change Australian Organic Standards to accept GM contamination. This is unacceptable.  
 
Organic foods in Australia were here well before the advent of transgenic GM crops which are engineered to absorb herbicides and/or produce pesticides, are patented to chemical corporations and are not proven safe to health and environment. 
 
The organic market does not accept any GM contamination. 
 
The onus should be on the GM Industry to prevent contamination and carry associated risks and costs.

Currently Australian Organics are our only guarantee to access 100% GM-free food. 
 
The Organic Industry should not be responsible for the failure of the GM Industry to securely segregate its product.
