Ask Orenda Tribe to change its name and Indigenous Cultural Appropriation

The Issue

Please help to challenge Amy’s and Orenda Tribe’s disrespectful use of another Indigenous  Culture’s spiritual beliefs for her own personal and financial benefit.
The term Orenda is a powerful word with deep meaning to Haudenosaunee people, and is not intended for any New Age “Soul Journey” or business name that id further trivialized by the hipster-shaman addition of “Tribe” which is just as problematic in its own way.

The Diné people have their own rich cultural and spiritual beliefs to draw from as she has done with some of her other projects.

We are asking that you also call for this cultural and spiritual appropriation to stop, and that she cease using our spiritual beliefs in her burgeoning cult of personality.

We believe that Amy’s 30 years working for such large corporations as Reebok and Puma with branding and later, consulting with start ups would give her the expertise to navigate business naming and the meaning of the words used. Amy is far from a neophyte regarding these things.

Her continued refusal to speak of this in either a public or private context is habitual and disrespectful to honest resolution of her appropriation of another Indigenous culture’s ancient beliefs has led to this petition.

Orenda is not your “spirit journey” a “tribe” nor part of your own culture. Please change the name to something more appropriate and more respectful of other Indigenous Nations.

Nia:wen for your time and hopefully your support,
Tehana’tsiawénrie
