Stop the logging of old growth and older fire proof trees in Deschutes National Forrest, O

The Issue

The USFS (United States Forrest Service) funded by tax payers is proposing and preparing for the logging of "older fire proof trees" in the Deschutes National Forrest near Bend Oregon.  This area is close to recreational areas, and home to wildlife and many old growth trees and types of natural vegetation.  This removal is being done under the umbrella of "fire proofing" this forrest.

Research does not support this action.  Many environmental and wild life advocacy groups support preserving the land and improving the forrest's natural ability to resist fire through alternative and natural Forrest Restoration Projects.  Re-wilding native species such as beaver and large herbivores restores the natural balance, reducing dry undergrowth and restoring and preserving natural streams and waterways.

Insist that your tax dollars be spent to preserve and improve the forrests in Oregon and neighboring states by using environmentally sound practices.  References: (publications by) Wild Horse Fire Brigade, Oregon Wild, Sierra Club and Western Watersheds Project to mention a few.

Your tax dollars will be spent to remove fireproof trees and damage the natural environment and the native species they protect if this FS plan goes ahead.  Someone will make a profit here, but it will not be the environment or local citizens.  Low cost, protective plans are available but they are ignored by the Forrest Service.  Demand a halt to this removal, and a review of environmentally sound alternatives.
