Emmilie Caterham started this petition to Oregon State Police

On Friday, December 04, 2020 at 10:18 am, my friend Rigo received a phone call from law enforcement informing him that they wanted to take Lucky The Goose. They removed Lucky from him home while he was at work. My friend did not know that under Oregon State Law, that people are not permitted to own wildlife. My friend understands this now after it was brought to his attention.  However, Lucky was free and has never been held against her will. On the morning of Friday, December 04, 2020, Lucky was outside in the backyard garden freely doing as she pleased. Happy and healthy. Law enforcement showed up with Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife at my friend Rigo’s home while his brother was home. Law enforcement had no search warrant to enter the home and had no search warrant to remove any animal off my friends property. This is abuse of power.  This is targeted harassment. Clearly, Lucky was free to fly away. She didn’t. Is it legal for Oregon State Police and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to dictate where a bird roams freely? Even if it’s in a private backyard. My friends brother’s answered the door and were fearful because police used a fear tactic against them to get into the home and the back yard to steal Lucky. They put fear into my friends brothers by using the word “illegal”.  They had no warrant. No search warrant. You cannot go into someone’s home and just take possession of what is on his property. There is no crime especially in a migratory season to steal wildlife from anyone’s home that is not held there against it’s will and is clearly roaming freely.

On Monday, December 07, 2020, it was reported by Katu that Lucky was taken to a vet and released into the wild.

My friend has suffered heartbreak and fear after this traumatic event. Releasing an animal into the wild without first putting it into a sanctuary is negligent.  This bird may not be able to survive on its own.

What happened to my friend is wrong. Law Enforcement and Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife have to be held accountable.  They had no right entering my friends home and removing a bird off his property without even my friend being home at the time. That is his home. They entered without my friends consent. He wasn’t home.  Justice for Lucky,  please sign below.
