Melissa Wilberger started this petition to Oregon Department of Education

The goshen area in Lane County Oregon belongs to the Springfield public school district and lost its community elementary school awhile ago.  Since then, the students of the area have endured long bus rides (an hour or more), greater distance from their school, and loss of community connection with their schools.

My family, and most families, in this area identify with pleasant hill community.  I have helped build their newest playground and most of my friends' kids attend pleasant hill schools.  I want my child to have the opportunity to build a community nearby with support of those they already know.

I face the decision of allowing my 5 year old child to ride the bus 2 hours a day or make the logistical sacrifices to drive her (which takes 3 times longer than going to pleasant hill).  I don't believe I should have to choose between outrageous bus commutes or putting such a strain on our family in order get my child to school.

I have been in close communication with the Pleasant Hill school district's superintendent in discussion with this change.  He has been supportive of my efforts to better the situation of families' students in this area. I believe this can be a benefit for Pleasant Hill school district and help families and students. That is why I am asking for a school district boundary board to be organized to evaluate if Pleasant Hill school district can be extended westward to I-5 from Dillard access road to Seavey Loop Road.  Please help me by signing my petition!
