The local animal director, Mike Vernon, proposed a "Pit Bull" ban almost 9 years ago with no valid reasoning. One of his excuses was "The mayor at the time wanted us to do something about it."  The ordinance states the following: the City Council finds that certain breeds of dogs and animals are an immediate and present danger to the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the City of Russellville. This could not be further from the truth.

Research has been done to determine if the amount of dog bites, attacks, etc. have decreased due to the ban and they have not. The total amount of dog bites remained steady despite the ban. Hoping to have this ordinance reversed, I have approached two of our mayors without a positive outcome. We have a new Mayor and with a new Mayor, comes hope! We hope to have at least 1,000 signatures to provide at our meeting with the Mayor of Russellville.
