Owner filmed pounding pet dog with metal pipe, deserves punishment! Do you agree?
The Issue
Orangeburg, South Carolina: Several outraged neighbors reported the man to the local sheriff’s office after seeing him pounding one of his pet dogs with a metal pipe on numerous occasions. Deputies arrived at the scene to question the man, who told them that the dog’s chain was caught in the front bumper of his van and that he was simply striking the dog with a plastic bat with the view of setting him free. However, deputies didn’t buy this story, as outraged neighbors intervened and asked officials to see the three videos they had taken. In all of them, the man can clearly be seen striking the dog repeatedly, even after the animal managed to free himself.
Deputies determined that the man’s behavior was completely out of line, so they charged him with animal neglect and had Orangeburg County Animal Control remove the three German Shepherd on the property. As the suspect, Harry Leon Leviner II, was taken into custody, he told police that ‘it was only a dog’.
Orangeburg County Magistrate Peggy Doremus set the man’s bond at $5, 000. On November 16th, Willie Robinson held a hearing to determine who would have custody of the dogs; Animal Control pleaded to gain full custody of the mistreated dog, so he could receive the necessary medical attention. The judge refused and, what’s more, had the audacity to give the suspect legal advise on how to get rid of the charges!
I am extremely outraged and at a loss of words. This also man needs to receive advise on how to survive a lengthy time in jail, not tips on how to avoid it! Please ask the Orangeburg County judicial system to seek justice for this poor dog and impose a harsh sentence against his merciless owner.
