Last week, OCPS teachers were notified that the teacher union negotiated a compensation package for 2019-2020 that included a $500 cost of living increase, performance based salary increases (that are less than last year), an extra paid day of working before school starts, and a significant increase to insurance (both premiums and across the board costs).

QUICK FACTS:

OCPS teachers are being offered a 1.25% cost of living increase when the government COLA is 2.8%.

OCPS is the 9th largest school district in the country.  It is 4th largest in the state.

OCPS teachers rank 21st in the state for average teacher salary.  Florida teachers rank 46th in the country for average teacher salary (average teacher salary nationwide is $60k, for Florida, it's mid-40s).

OCPS school superintendent ranks 3rd in the state for her salary.

OCPS school board members rank 1st in the state for their salary.  They are paid more than the average Florida teacher salary for their part-time jobs as school board members.

The OCPS lawyer is asking for a 4% cost of living increase, as well as bonuses.

The School Board will be meeting this Tuesday, June 25th to vote on the above-mentioned compensation package.  By signing this petition, you are showing your support for OCPS teachers.  The goal of this petition is to motivate the OCPS School Board to vote NO and continue negotiations to achieve fairer compensation for OCPS teachers.
