Overhaul Orange County (FL) Animal Services and Disband Current Staff
The Issue
One of the most overlooked problems in Orange County Florida is the way animals are treated at the animal shelter. This has been ongoing for years with changes to the top positions and still nothing has changed. The stories that are coming from rescues, fosters, volunteers and/or adopters are enough to make you angry and make you cry. Some people don't want to speak out for fear of it endangering their ability to rescue and fear for quicker euthanasia to the animals involved.
It is time for an overhaul of OCAS, for more involvement from outside sources, for investigations into the incompetence, miscommunications and a senseless high euthanasia count.
Its time for the mistakes to stop! From sick and scared cats being marked "feral" and deemed un-adoptable to a dog being rescued and when the adopter gets there they made the mistake of euthanizing her to picking up 2 kittens and being told they were spayed females, but finding out they were males and one that was clipped internally and his urine filled his body and the toxins killed him. These are just a couple examples that have happened recently.
Change is coming all over the world...why don't we start by changing this horribly mishandled situation.
