John Wayne was a devoted family man, a great friend, and a cherished actor on the big screen. From 1926-1977, John Wayne appeared in 95 films which have had a lasting impact on cinema. 

His work with the John Wayne Cancer Foundation and the John Wayne Cancer Institute contributed to cancer research, understanding, and education.

To honor John Wayne, on June 20, 1979, the Orange County Board of Supervisors renamed Orange County Airport to John Wayne Airport. 

Recently, the Democratic Party of Orange County passed an emergency resolution calling on the Orange County Board of Supervisors to change the name of John Wayne Airport because of comments made by Mr. Wayne in a Playboy Interview almost 50 years ago.
