The Issue

For many years, our community has strived to maintain a balance between development and the wellbeing of its residents and wildlife. Today, this balance is threatened by the proposed housing development, The Flats on Main. Many of us have already experienced the negative impact of previous ill-planned developments, including flooding due primarily to poor drainage, insufficient infrastructure, and disregard for our local wildlife’s habitats. Our treasured privacy, too, risks being eroded.

The Environmental Protection Agency's guidelines make it clear that developers should consider potential environmental impacts before implementing their plans, but in our case, they seem to be overlooked. Such disregard for the impacts on biodiversity, flood mapping, and infrastructure places undue strain on our community and its resources.

We believe everyone deserves access to affordable housing, but not at the expense of our community's wellbeing and environmental health. It's time to ask our local government to reconsider this housing development plan or, at the very least, ensure comprehensive plans are in place to mitigate the numerous concerns we have raised. Stand with our community and call on our local government to oppose this low-income housing development. Your signature matters and can bring change—sign the petition now.
