Opposition to Proposed Weir Hill Phase 3 Plans

Opposition to Proposed Weir Hill Phase 3 Plans
The Issue
We strongly oppose the proposed development of 460 new homes by Persimmon Homes and Taylor Wimpey titled 'Weir Hill Phase 3'. This development poses serious threats to our quality of life, the local environment, and the integrity of our community.
Our primary concerns are as follows:
1. Loss of Privacy and Seclusion
The natural landscape was a key feature in our decision to purchase homes here. It provides privacy and a sense of peaceful seclusion, which was explicitly marketed to buyers. This development will convert what we were sold as a private road into a main road, destroying that seclusion and permanently altering the character of the area.
2. Destruction of Scenic Views
The open green space and countryside views are central to the appeal of our homes and contribute to our physical and mental wellbeing.
3. Construction Noise and Long-Term Disruption
We anticipate years of noise, dust, and disruption, especially given the long and unfinished nature of Phase 1 (7 years and it is yet to be finished). The state of the roads has already caused repeated vehicle damage, including flat tyres, with no accountability from developers. Extending this into a new multi-year construction phase will severely disrupt our lives.
4. Overpopulation, Unsafe Roads, and Traffic Issues
An influx of traffic from 460 additional homes will put immense strain on the current infrastructure. Our roads are already hazardous, with daily near-miss accidents, inadequate traffic calming, and poor maintenance. Increasing road usage will place both drivers and pedestrians at risk—especially our children. Drainage is already at breaking point and no provision has been made for educational needs for an increase in population size.
5. Environmental and Wildlife Impact
The development threatens important habitats and green space. These natural areas are vital for wildlife, air quality, and the ecological health of our region. Losing them would represent an irreversible environmental setback for our community.
6. Flawed and Exclusionary Consultation Process
The consultation process has been inadequate, with poor communication, short notice, and the meeting to consult us being scheduled during working hours—preventing many from participating. It feels like the community’s concerns are being dismissed, and that decisions have already been made without meaningful input. The consultation process is taking place after the land has already been purchased, making us feel as though it is a done deal and this meeting is simply a formality.
We urge the local planning authorities and relevant developers to:
Reconsider and halt the proposed development.
Respect the assurances given to existing homeowners regarding privacy, traffic, and environment.
Engage in a genuine, transparent consultation process with residents.
Invest in and address existing infrastructure issues before considering any expansion of the community.
This petition represents our collective voice, rooted in a deep concern for the wellbeing of our families, our environment, and the integrity of our neighbourhood.
