Opposed to the Hunter Transmission Project

Opposed to the Hunter Transmission Project
The issue
The Hunter Valley Transmission Project is underway and claims to power our state with renewable energy for decades to come. The information provided by the Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) provides a positive outlook for the project, but the images and maps provided don't really communicate the location of the Transmission Towers set to sweep through our native Forests.
The 500kV transmission lines with 70m high towers set in a 70m wide easement will be 400-600m apart, and look like being located within areas of high biodiversity as the line travels from Eraring Power Station (near Lake Macquarie NSW) through the Hunter Valley for 115kms to Bayswater Power Station (between Singleton and Musswellbrook NSW).
What we don't know, is the effect of native vegetation removal within areas of known High Biodiversity - we have 57 threatened native animal species that have been recorded in or near the Corrabare North Flora Reserve and Corrabare South Nature Reserve and Watagan Flora reserves west and south of Congewai and within the project Power Corridor, and the area is believed to provide important habitat to koalas.
We don't know whether Aboriginal Sites of Significance recorded in the vicinity, also within the project Power Corridor have been investigated. They may be damaged or lost!
We don't know the visual impact, loss of amenity, unknown effect of Electromagnetic Radiation from high voltage lines on human health and potential property devaluation.
What we do know is that our area will never be the same as we currently enjoy. Let's do something now during the Community Consultation period to make sure our objections are heard
