Oppose Unnecessary Bicycle Lane Implementation on Balmoral Drive

Oppose Unnecessary Bicycle Lane Implementation on Balmoral Drive
The Issue
I, like many residents of our community, am genuinely perplexed and concerned by the proposed changes to Balmoral Drive. The planned changes include the installation of bike lanes, reduced street parking, and the addition of speed cushions. These alterations seem unnecessary and disruptive to the current balance of our neighborhood.
Lack of Necessity: Current bicycle traffic on Balmoral Drive is relatively low. Thus, the need for bike lanes does not seem justified. It is important to emphasize efficient use of resources and focus on areas where demand is significant. Proceeding with this project despite the minimal need to not only inconvenient but also a poor allocation of community funding.
Impact on Traffic: Reducing parking on the south/west side and installing bollards increases the potential for congestion on Balmoral. These changes will disrupt traffic patterns in the area, affecting residents, visitors, and local businesses who pay taxes for smooth and efficient traffic management.
Parking Problems: Reducing the available street parking will cause considerable inconvenience to those who rely on these spaces. For many, this means more difficulty in finding parking and difficulty managing driveway parking—unacceptable impacts for a change that seems to lack strong justification.
The proposed changes to Balmoral Drive appear to be more detrimental than beneficial. As a member of this community, I strongly oppose these changes and urge our city council to reconsider the proposed alterations. Please stand with us in opposing this unnecessary change. Sign our petition to keep Balmoral Drive as it is.
