Hello friends,

More than half of the world’s children are growing up in cities. By 2030, up to 60 percent of the world’s urban population will be under 18 years old. Yet, children and families are often invisible to urban planners, developers, and architects when creating city-wide policies that impact transportation, air and noise pollution, health and well-being.*

In the past 606 days it has become apparent that within the current political landscape of the City of Vancouver, our children do not have a powerful lobby.

They only have us.

Voting in the municipal election on October 15, presents the greatest opportunity to bring about change to matters of child-friendly urban design and planning.  Children and families need safe, healthy, inclusive playful neighbourhoods.  They need enhanced independent mobility.  They need safe learning environments that cater to individual needs.  We need the preservation and restoration of programs that enable children of differing abilities to flourish.  Only through this, can we effect the success of families, and allow them to thrive in our city.

We need to be careful to NOT elect decision makers who don’t look beyond the election cycle in their ideating. We need to elect those with a clear focus on our next generation.

After much attained (and attempted) engagement with the current representative, and the candidates vying for leadership in our city’s election, it's apparent who would be the best pool of candidates, to advocate for our city’s children.

Please find our guidance below for all areas of municipal governance.

Thank you for your engagement, time and attention (and for voting!).

Best
