Oppose the waste import site at East Nutcott Farm, Rackenford DCC/4451/2025

Oppose the waste import site at East Nutcott Farm, Rackenford DCC/4451/2025
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents and supporters, call on Devon County Council to refuse the proposed planning application for an inert waste import and land-raising operation at East Nutcott Farm, Rackenford, Devon, planning application number DCC/4451/2025.
This proposed waste import site at East Nutcott Farm threatens to bring 444,000 cubic meters, or 663,000 tonnes, of building waste into our peaceful rural landscape in Rackenford, Devon. This is deeply personal to us and signifies a considerable threat to our community's tranquillity and safety. The chosen location is alarmingly close to the Little Dart River, posing a potential risk to the delicate ecosystem that surrounds this area, which includes a county wildlife site.
The narrow country lanes in Rackenford are indeed picturesque but wholly unsuitable for the sustained heavy goods vehicle (HGV) traffic the development would necessitate. Imagine thousands of HGV movements intruding upon our daily lives, disturbing our peace and potentially damaging the roads that are not designed for such heavy usage.
Moreover, this operation, which is anticipated to last several years, involves extensive earthworks. It aims to alter the existing landscape without delivering any tangible benefit to our local community. The proposal fails to offer clear advantages for those of us who cherish this land and its legacy for future generations.
Such a development threatens not only the peace and safety of our environment but also the wildlife that calls this place home. These looming changes could drastically affect the quality of life for residents and create environmental challenges that may be irreversible.
We call on Devon County Council to act in the best interest of the community and the environment by refusing the proposed planning application for this inert waste import and land-raising operation.
Please sign this petition to protect our home, our environment, and to preserve the natural beauty of East Nutcott Farm and the surrounding areas. Your support can make a difference in preventing this large-scale disruption in our cherished countryside.
