Almost 4,200 people have signed this petition, and others are taking note! Thanks to you making your voice heard, we've finally seen media pieces that challenge the idea that the notwithstanding clause to evict encampments is benign. We know that it absolutely is not: it would represent the removal of the right to life — the most fundamental human right of all — for homeless people in Ontario.

Here's what UBC law professors had to say: "The rights of homeless Ontarians must be protected from the premier and misguided mayors"

Here's what Toronto Star columnist Shawn Micallef had to say: "If you don’t want encampments in your park, you should speak up for shelters in your neighbourhood"

Our movement has also been joined by important organizations, including the National Right to Housing Network, the Women's National Housing & Homelessness Network, and The Shift.

My intel is that the louder we are and the more we can show that using the notwithstanding clause would be deeply unpopular, the less likely it is that Ford will pursue such ludicrous legislation. But, if he were to do so, the time would be now: the legislature will rise in December, and we might see an election by the spring. Which means that any legislation to take away homeless people's rights would be tabled next month. Our time is short!

What can you do?

Get loud on social media! Tag @fordnation on X and @fordnationdougford on Instagram and let him know that the Charter rights of homeless people must be protected!

Join a delegation in your city! I'm supporting people who want to challenge their Mayors and Councils to have their voice heard at their local City Halls. Interested? Then join a delegation.

Continue to sign and share this petition!

Thank you so much for your continued support,

Diana
