We are a group of doctors who have successfully passed the Ethiopian Residency Matching Program (ERMP) exams and have been matched to hospitals across Ethiopia. Without prior notice, we were informed about an additional requirement - the Graduate Admission Test (GAT). This sudden imposition was not included in the 2023/2024 guidelines and has caused significant disruption. Many of us had already resigned from previous jobs and relocated to cities where our matched hospitals are located. The lack of transparency and sudden changes in policy undermine our professional stability and future prospects. According to World Health Organization data, Ethiopia has one doctor for every 10,000 people, far below the global average. Such abrupt policy changes could potentially deter aspiring doctors from joining this profession, further exacerbating the healthcare crisis in our country. We call upon relevant authorities to reconsider this decision and uphold fairness for all ERMP matched candidates across Ethiopia.
