The Issue

TO: THE YOLO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS and THE DELTA PROTECTION COMMISSION

SUBJECT: PROPOSED CLARKSBURG BRANCH LINE TRAIL EXTENSION PROJECT.  The City of West Sacramento is planning a bicycle-recreation trail that will connect West Sacramento to Clarksburg.

OBJECTIONS TO THE TRAIL:

1.    The trail will impact the Clarksburg farming community (no public facilities or services exist).

2.    The trail will decrease security for Clarksburg landowners and residents, as well as increase Volunteer Fire Department calls, dumping, trespassing, homelessness, theft, vandalism and liability.

3.    Trail users will be exposed to fast moving farm equipment and chemical applications.  It will bisect farms, interfere with Reclamation District’s drainage, and intrude upon sensitive wetlands, habitat and wildlife.

AN ALTERNATE ROUTE: A Deep Water Channel Levee Trail Plan already exists (shown as higher priority).

PETITION:

We, the undersigned, oppose the Trail Project that will connect Clarksburg to West Sacramento and request the County Board of Supervisors and the Delta Protection Commission withdraw support for the Project.
