The Issue

As a resident of Lee County, Florida, I am genuinely concerned about the proposed expansion of the Seminole Campground, which would convert over 29 acres of cherished agricultural land into an RV park. This issue extends beyond local boundaries; it touches the heart of our community's future, our environment, and the values we hold dear.

Our community is rooted in its agricultural heritage and rural charm—qualities that define us and deserve protection. These lands represent more than their productivity; they embody our history and way of life. Transforming them into an RV park could diminish our county's rural character—a loss that cannot easily be reversed.

I also worry about the impact on traffic. With developments like Brightwater already increasing congestion, adding more vehicles and RVs could place a heavy burden on our roads, leading to longer commutes, more accidents, and greater wear and tear. These changes affect us all and the safety of our families.

Environmental concerns are equally important. Florida has faced serious flooding issues, often worsened by unchecked expansion that neglects environmental impacts. The proposed RV park could worsen drainage problems, putting homes and natural habitats at risk.

This expansion conflicts with Lee County’s Comprehensive Plan, which guides us toward sustainable and thoughtful development. Turning this land into an RV park runs counter to those guidelines, threatening the integrity of our community's planning efforts.

Furthermore, introducing a commercial RV park in a predominantly agricultural area could disrupt the harmony of our neighborhoods, leading to community dissatisfaction and uncertainty in property values.

I respectfully ask our residents and leaders to consider the bigger picture. Let's work together to preserve the land's original purpose and uphold the values that make our community special. I urge authorities to pause this decision and focus on solutions that honor our rural character and protect our environment.

Please join me in opposing the Seminole Campground expansion by signing this petition. Together, we can advocate for responsible and sustainable growth in Lee County, for us and future generations.
