Oppose the Sebilj monument in Proctor Park

Oppose the Sebilj monument in Proctor Park
The Issue
In the heart of our community lies Proctor Park, a space many of us hold dear for its tranquility and natural beauty. It's not just a park; it's a sanctuary, a place where we find peace and reflection. As a community rooted deeply in our belief and devotion to Jesus Christ, many residents, including myself, believe that the erection of the Sebilj monument is not in alignment with the values we cherish and uphold in this nation defined by Christian principles.
The Sebilj, known as a symbol originating from the Ottoman Empire and representing Bosnian heritage, while culturally significant, does not reflect the heritage or the predominant belief system that shapes Proctor Park and our wider community. This monument would alter the spiritual and cultural atmosphere of our beloved park which many feel should remain a reflection of the Christian identity that this nation has historically embraced.
It’s crucial we respect and showcase the beliefs and traditions that align with the majority who cherish and practice them daily. We propose instead to work collaboratively to find another more suited monument and invest in preserving our park with additions that align with our shared community values.
By signing this petition, you support keeping Proctor Park a place that reflects the Christian values many of us hold dear. Join us in sending a clear message to local officials that the choice of public monuments should reflect the community's values and beliefs.
