The Issue

As property owners in Lamar County, we've invested heavily in our homes, schools, and neighborhoods. Our commitment goes beyond financial considerations—it encompasses the well-being and quality of life of our community. The proposed rezoning (RZ26-05-01) on JM Burge Road is a matter that could significantly affect all of these aspects and warrants urgent attention and action.

Lamar County is currently contemplating allowing a manufactured mobile home park development in an area that is fundamentally incompatible with this type of construction. The proposal allows for over 300 units, which would result in an increase of more than 400 daily vehicle trips. This is alarming considering this would be the first new mobile home park in the county since 2010, a fact that highlights its misalignment with the county’s long-term development plan.

According to the staff report, the rezoning decision poses risks not only to traffic safety but also to property values and the overall community environment. JM Burge Road is not equipped to handle the increased traffic, which could lead to congestion and potentially hazardous conditions on our roads. The serenity and security of our neighborhoods are at stake, threatened by increased noise, pollution, and wear and tear on infrastructure.

Beyond these tangible considerations, there is a profound impact on the identity and future direction of our community. The long-term development plan crafted carefully over the years is designed to maintain the county’s unique character. The addition of a mobile home park, which does not align with that vision, could detrimentally affect our community’s brand and desirability.

We implore the Lamar County Board of Supervisors to consider the overwhelming evidence against this rezoning and listen to the voices of those who call this county home. We must preserve our community's values and ensure development decisions are consistent with our collective vision for the future.

We urge all concerned residents and stakeholders to join us in opposing this development. Make your voice heard before it’s too late. Join us in protecting our investment, our environment, and our community’s future. Attend the hearing set for May 12, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Lamar County Chancery Building and sign this petition today to oppose the rezoning approval for JM Burge Road. Every signature counts!
