As a deeply concerned member of the Mississippi University for Women Alumni, I am writing this petition to express my strong opposition against the proposed name change of our beloved institution, Mississippi University for Women (MUW), to Mississippi Brightwell University (MBU). This proposed change does not adequately represent the rich history and legacy of MUW. 

MUW was established in 1884 as an institution dedicated to women's education. It has since evolved into a coeducational university but remains committed to its original mission - empowering women through education. Changing its name would erase this significant part of our state's educational history.

Moreover, renaming it after a person or entity that doesn't have any historical connection with MUW is inappropriate and misleading. Instead, we propose renaming it to better reflect the history of the school while still looking towards the future.

We believe that preserving the identity and heritage of MUW is crucial for current students, alumni, faculty members and future generations who will benefit from its legacy. We urge all stakeholders involved in this decision-making process to reconsider their stance on this matter.
