Oppose the Proposed Poultry Units at North Farm, Felton Butler, Montford Bridge
The Issue
I am a resident deeply concerned about the proposed poultry units at North Farm, Felton Butler, Montford Bridge in Shropshire. The area is already saturated with 38 intensive chicken sheds on six sites within a 3km radius of the proposed site. These facilities house over two million chickens. This high concentration of poultry farming has significant implications for our local environment and biodiversity.
The proposed site drains into the River Severn after passing through a pond that serves as a habitat for great crested newts. The potential pollution from another poultry unit could harm this delicate ecosystem and endanger these protected species.
Moreover, there are concerns about air quality due to ammonia emissions from such intensive farming practices. According to DEFRA's Code of Good Agricultural Practice (COGAP), high levels of ammonia can cause harm to human health and contribute to acid rain which damages soils and watercourses.
We must protect our community's health, environment, and biodiversity from further degradation caused by industrial-scale farming operations. It is time we voice our opposition against Planning Application 17/05151/EIA for additional poultry units in an area already burdened by intensive chicken farming.
Please join me in urging Shropshire Council to reject this planning application. Sign this petition today!
