The Issue

Having lived in Loughton for over a decade, I am deeply concerned about the proposed construction of an AI data centre on Langstone Road. This project threatens to transform our peaceful neighbourhood into a hub of constant activity, bringing with it a host of significant challenges for our community, the wildlife and our beautiful forest areas.

Firstly, the continuous noise pollution generated by the data centre will undoubtedly disrupt the tranquillity that residents in Loughton currently enjoy. This 24/7 noise is not just an inconvenience; it can adversely affect health and wellbeing, causing sleep disturbances and a rise in stress levels among residents.

Moreover, our environment is at risk. The construction and operation of the data centre pose threats of air and water pollution, including the potential release of hazardous 'forever metals,' which can persist in the environment and compromise public health, especially for those living with Ashma. The water and electricity infrastructure in Loughton is already under strain, and the data centre's high demand on these grids could lead to shortages or reduced supply for residents.

Traffic congestion is another pressing concern. Loughton's roads are already struggling to cope with existing levels of traffic, and the additional burden introduced by construction and service vehicles can have dire consequences on daily commutes and air quality. Increased traffic means more delays and potentially more accidents, heightening the risk to drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.

It is crucial that we protect the essence of our community and act in the best interests of its residents. We should ensure sustainable development that does not compromise our quality of life, the health of our children or our environment.

This development has already been agreed, without a comittee hearing, and we are told that there is NOTHING we can do to change this decision.  This may well be the case, but I still believe that us as residents should have an opportunity to make our voices heard.

Please sign this petition if you are also opposed to or concerned about the impact of this data centre in our beloved Loughton  / Debden area.  PS: if you believe that this is all nonsense and it will all be fine, try using AI to search: What are the implications of a large AI data centa centre in a residential area?  And see what AI has to say about itself.
