Oppose the Noosaville Foreshore Master Plan

The Noosaville Foreshore Plan Impacts

Significant concerns are raised on the Noosa Community Facebook group about the draft plan with comments growing daily.  This plan has a large impact, especially on the current community.

What is at stake?

  1. Noosa Tennis courts have been designated to be replaced with a playground impacting retirees' weekly/daily social gatherings.
  2. Parking will be reduced impacting accessibility to the daily surf ski community, boat hires, and businesses
  3. Loss of the current natural integration with the foreshore and birdlife.
  4. And others such as the massive disruption that would occur for years if this were to be built in a full-scale development.

Why we need to act now?

The deadline for community feedback is July 7th.   If this petition has the support we need to submit electronically by July 6th to ensure compliance.

The Noosa Foreshore!

Happiness is very present now!

I wandered the entire length of the foreshore today and saw nothing but happiness and appreciation.  Gatherings of all levels from retirees, to young families.  In fact the entire length of the reach had numerous  people enjoying every aspect of it.  Why disrupt the status quo?

The Tennis Courts

Every Tuesday at 9am the locals gather to play games, socialise and interact with the natural surroundings.  If you are watching the “let’s live Forever” program on channel 9 one of the keys to longevity is social engagement, followed by diet and other aspects.   How could anyone want to deny these lovely semi-retired and retired residents lose their tennis court to yet another kids playground.

Interstate Visitor Concerns

As we walked we came across a couple staring at the Council plan sign on the post near the walkway.  We said hi what do you think.   They responded “It seems really wrong, all the key words on the sign are meaningless”. What do you mean?  “Well it’s all glossy and not specific” was the reply.   “It looks like they are trying to copy other ‘on trend’ locations, why would you mess with this natural beautiful location?”.

Reduced Parking

This is the hot topic for business.  They desperately need to retain as much regular vehicle traffic as possible.  What about all the local “surf skiers”!  We love to walk by to see so many happy folks with their cars backed in, ski’s on roof or under wash down after a good paddle up the river.  Ties right back to “longevity” and happiness.

Fishing

Promoting timber outlooks to help fishing is a big concern.  From practical experience in Sydney Harbour, where the foreshore provided platforms for fishing ended up creating more problems.  First this cohort of fisherman are more the lazy type that leave rubbish, including unused bait and fish hooks.  We had to stop letting our dog off the lead as it would go sniff the bait and end up with a fish hook in its paws!  We believe true fisherman who want to fish in the Noosa river do not need timber decking to help them, they will wade into the water, use a boat or whatever it takes to catch that fish.   Conclusion, fishing features should not be a part of the future plan.

Wildlife & Habitat

Yesterday we also had a picnic on the foreshore and 3 ducks waddled up to check out what we were eating!  They seem to be the same ducks from another picnic a few days earlier at the busking day.  Here’s the thing!  If we start putting jutting out timber lookouts etc. are the ducks going to come and interact with our families and enable a natural integration with our beautiful surrounds?

With this plan - what duck is going to climb up a timber post and come talk to us?  What this plan will result in is a SEPARATION of human nature with natural birdlife and fauna.  We need our kids and grandkids have the freedom to naturally interact with nature.

E-Bikes & co-existence with us People

We already have an issue of e-bikes going so fast and doing wheel stands down the streets.   Why promote reduced vehicle access and increase cycling?  The layout today is so safe and workable.
